The BIG New Year Detox

So it’s New Year, and we can no longer put off the dreaded moment.

We’ve been promising ourselves, as we waded through tins of Quality Street and bottles of Baileys, that we would put it all to rights come the New Year, and have a good old detox.

Well, that moment has now arrived … but please don’t panic. What we may not realise is that detoxing can be a highly pleasurable experience, once we’ve got over the first day and the notorious ‘caffeine withdrawal headache”.

Oh, to be sure, this article will probably have to vie with those from ‘government scientists’ which insist that detoxing is faddish, foolish and a futile waste of time and energy. But that’s probably because these scientists have never experienced the lightness and joie-de-vivre that returns once all the toxicity has been removed from our systems ~ plus they are also funded by food manufacturers who want us to keep buying their products.

At the very least, during a detox you are only consuming healthy foods like fruit and vegetables~ and so what can be so bad about that?

But anyone who’s ever detoxed before, even if only for a few days, will recognise propaganda when they see it, and will be looking forward to an excuse for a good old clear out.

So what do we mean by detox?

There’s only one way to find out. Here,  I’m going to give you a seven-day detox that I do regularly.

New Year, New You

You will need to buy in lots of the following fruits and vegetables. Try to buy organic wherever possible, but don’t worry if you can’t get organic, especially as availability can be a problem this time of the year.

  1. apples
  2. carrots
  3. celeriac
  4. celery
  5. parsley
  6. watercress
  7. beetroot
  8. red pepper

And you will also need the following from your local health food shop.

  1. bentonite clay ~ which sticks to the intestinal gunge and the helps it to pass through the gut
  2. psyllium husks ~ which bulk out the faeces, allowing the gunge stuck to the clay to pass out more freely
  3. chlorella powder ~ which is great for detoxing heavy metals, essential for anyone who lives under chemtrails, but get powder rather than capsules, if you can, because it’s easier to digest.
  4. fish oil (of flax if you’re vegetarian) ~ for omega fats
  5. a good multi-vitamin pill to take once a day

Day One

For breakfast each day, have apple juice ~ and this is best freshly juiced yourself, in a juicer. Throughout the day, have the juiced vegetables whenever you feel like it, and include in the mixture:

  1. one quarter teaspoon of bentonite clay
  2. one tablespoon of psyllium husks
  3. one quarter teaspoon of chlorella
  4. two teaspoons of fish oil. If you find yourself getting hungry, just add more oil in the next veggie smoothie. This will line your stomach.

Go for a colonic irrigation treatment. This is because the main problem substance that we want to remove with our detox is a sort of gunge that accrues in the lining of our intestines over time and which prevents us from being able to absorb the goodness in our food. A colonic irrigation will get you off to a good start by flushing you out, but, in itself, it won’t remove all the intestinal gun. We will be working to loosen and remove it  throughout the rest of the week, and then another colonic irrigation at the end of the seven days should remove any that’s left.

Before going to bed each night, have a glass of freshly squeezed apple juice.

Repeat all of the above, apart from the colonic irrigation treatment through Days Two, Three, Four and Five.

Day Six

On the sixth day, have your juices as usual, but you will need to start building up to the liver flush.

You will need to buy:

  1. organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
  2. lemons or grapefruits
  3. niacine (vitamin B3)

Have your last glass of apple juice at 6.00 pm and then follow these instructions for the liver flush before going to bed.

Liver Flush

(Health warning: Don’t do this if you have Gilbert’s syndrome or anything where you have to take blood thinnng tablets like Warfarin. If in doubt, do consult your doctor or physician).

The purpose of the liver flush is, as the name says, to flush out the liver. The liver tends to accumulate debris over time that forms itself into stones which can range from tiny, gravel-like stones to larger ones of all colours, shapes and sizes.

Step one: Drink 2-8 oz organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. You can mix it with  2-8 oz organic fresh squeezed lemon or grapefruit juice, or you can alternate sips between olive oil and lemon juice or you can just drink one at a time. Try to drink it all down as quickly as you can and then lay down for 10 minutes.

Step two:  Take 50-500 mg niacin B3 (Vitamin B3). Some people may be allergic to niacin so it’s best to start out with a small dose like 50 mg and work up from there. Your skin will probably flush red, although you can buy ‘no flush’ versions.  But the purpose of taking niacin is to dilate the bile duct so  that stones can pass easily through without restriction. Niacin acts as a safety precaution so liver stones and gallbladder stones don’t get stuck during the liver flush. Stones getting stuck is very rare, but in any case if stones did get stuck you may need surgery to get them out. There may be extreme pain. Taking niacin almost eliminates the chances in this extremely rare scenario.

Optional step three: Take a glass of one to two tablespoons of Epsom salts in a glassful of water. This optimises even further the relaxation of the bile duct, allowing the stones to pass more comfortably. However, the salts taste foul! So that’s why it’s optional.

Try to sleep as much as you can because you may not need to pass any faeces or stones until dawn the next day, which will be the seventh and the last day of your detox.

Day Seven

After you wake up, and for the next few hours, make sure you never far from a loo as your bowel will release several times. Later on, and if you can, it is a good idea to go for a colonic irrigation, and this will flush out any nasties that may have been left behind. You can then have your first solid food, although keep it light to start with ~ a bowl of vegetable soup is ideal and if you must have carbohydrates, rice cakes or crackers would be best.

After that, can gradually reintroduce your usual foods into your diet

You should be feeling great by now and in tip-top shape to meet any new challenges in 2012.  It will truly be a Happy New Year!
