UN conference attempts to force adoption of GM crops and livestock

(Rome, Monday 15 February, 2016) Just when the biotech companies that make transgenic seeds are merging, the corporate vision of biotechnology is showing up at FAO.

At today’s opening of the three-day international symposium on agricultural biotechnologies convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, more than 100 social movement and civil society organisations (CSOs) from four continents have issued a statement denouncing both the substance and structure of the meeting, which appears to be another attempt by multinational agribusiness to redirect the policies of the UN agency toward support for genetically-engineered crops and livestock. TTIP, which will bring GM foods flooding into our shops, has now been rubber stamped through EU parliament

Today I heard that certain members of the European Commission were expressing concern, after the Greek referendum No vote, that the ‘contagion of democracy’ may spread further to other countries.

It’s when this sort of sentiment trickles out from what is in effect an unelected, unaccountable and unaudited ruling junta of non-tax paying billionaires that we can start to see the writing on the wall. Then we begin to realise that letters, petitions and protest marches will do nothing to change their minds in the voting on TTIP today because few of them are interested in what we think; they’re not even pretending that we live under a democracy anymore. TTIP will bring GM foods flooding into our shops, and they won’t be labelled

Currently, all food producers selling their products in the UK are legally required to list on the package label when it contains GM ingredients … but all that is set to change under the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

When TTIP passes through Parliament into law here – I’m not saying ‘if’ because of how much MPs are being bribed to pass it – GM foods will come flooding into our supermarkets and the packets won’t be labelled. This is because there will no longer be any law to say they should be. The British public is already being mentally prepared by heavily-biased propaganda television programmes and as we speak, Monsanto is planning on moving to Britain, no doubt to be better placed to mop up all the tax-free breaks on this new windfall. Changes to EU legislation mean that GM crops can now be grown in Britain

Britain’s Minister for the Environment Owen Paterson has acted against the wishes of the British people by encouraging legislation to allow GM crops to be legally sown in Britain. This change has now gone through, meaning that GM crops can now be legally sown in Britain, probably within the year… and how soon after that will GM foods start flooding into the shops?

Paterson is not representing the view of the British people in Brussels, but the interests of Monsanto and other biotech companies. However, the British people are not being told about this change in the mainstream media.

The day Monsanto met ministers in the UK to push return of GM crops to Britain

Why did we decide to develop our app, Shop GMO-Free in the UK?  It began when we started to become aware that Monsanto and other biotech food producers were infiltrating our shopping aisles in Britain via stealth. In addition, food containing meat or dairy from animals fed on GM feed don’t have to be listed as GM on the labels, and all the UK supermarkets have announced that it can no longer guarantee that its animal products, such as meat and dairy, come from animals fed on non-GM soya.

We were originally alerted by this press release, which showsed how our government is hand-in-glove with the GM agenda, and will be pushing to get public acceptance for taxpayers’ money to be spent on the development of GM crops here.
