Canada’s NFU calls for halt in sale of GM alfalfa seeds

Saskatoon – The National Farmers Union (NFU) has written to Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay asking him to take immediate action to stop Monsanto licensee, Forage Genetics International, (FGI) from selling genetically modified (GM) alfalfa seed in Canada this spring. The NFU also asked the Minister to put border controls in place to prevent importation of contaminated conventional alfalfa seed from the USA. Continue reading

Another British supermarket now selling GM foods

Marks & Spencer has come under fire for abandoning its policy of selling only GM-free food. We’ve just updated our app to show that it’s now selling six products containing genetically-modified soya or corn despite having long presented itself as being opposed to such engineered products.

What is food sovereignty?

Food sovereignty is about the right of us all to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and the right to define our own food and agriculture systems.

In other words, we have a right to a choice about what we eat and drink, and do not have to give in to others forcing genetically modified and otherwise adulterated foods upon us. Unfortunately, the biotech industry doesn’t agree, and it’s slowly infiltrating GM foods into UK food shops and supermarkets. Continue reading
