Monsanto’s touring Britain to persuade us that the ‘science is settled’ on GMOs

by Lance D Johnson

Monsanto public relations are fighting an uphill battle as they try to convince the world that their genetically modified crops are beneficial and necessary. More than ever before, informed people are skeptical of the so-called safety of GMOs and agrochemicals. When the International Agency for Research on Cancer declared that glyphosate was a probable human carcinogen, public opinion on GMO safety quickly shifted.

Now Monsanto must employ a new strategy to promote GMOs, one that paints dissenters as “ideologically driven” and “anti-science.” In the United Kingdom, Monsanto headquarters appointed former World Bank communications strategists Vance Crowe to head up a new position called “Director of Millennial Engagement.” This position was created to convince skeptical young adults that their anti-GMO views are fueled by emotion, not logic. Crowe is scheduled to tour the UK in 2017 and convince millennials that the benefits of GMOs trump the fear surrounding public opinion. Continue reading

More countries reject GM foods than take them from America

As Monsanto is fighting to gain seed control of the whole world of agriculture by spreading genetically-modified crops across the world (with the support of the U.S. government, according to Wikileaks), there is far greater opposition from the rest of the world, where many countries are not only labeling GMOs but also banning their cultivation altogether.

We know GMOs are not widely accepted across the world, but which countries have backed up their concerns about the safety of GMOs with bans? — Sustainable Pulse, a GMO news source, decided to research. Continue reading

Leaked: US to start ‘trade wars’ with countries opposed to GM

By Anthony Gucciardi

The United States is threatening nations who oppose Monsanto’s genetically modified (GM) crops with military-style trade wars, according to information obtained and released by the organization WikiLeaks. Nations like France, which have moved to ban one of Monsanto’s GM corn varieties, were requested to be ‘penalized’ by the United States for opposing Monsanto and genetically modified foods.

The information reveals just how deep Monsanto’s roots have penetrated key positions within the United States government, with the cables reporting that many U.S. diplomats work directly for Monsanto. Continue reading

How Obama is blackmailing Europe to take GM foods

The Obama administration has threatened to block all European car exports if the EU does not accept America’s genetically-modified and hormone-enhanced produce.

On Sunday, German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung claimed that 240 pages of text from the secret transatlantic trade deal (TTIP) obtained by Greenpeace show the US to be blackmailing the EU to force through the trade deal, despite European objections. Continue reading

Massive leak of TTIP shows just why they wanted to keep it secret

Today’s publication of the 248-page leak of negotiating documents for the controversial Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) spells the end of the controversial EU-US deal, campaigners said today.

The texts of the TTIP negotiations have been kept strictly secret until today’s leak, which reveals European Commission negotiators preparing to trade away key sectors of the European economy in order to win contracts for multinational corporations in the USA. Continue reading

Most meat in the UK comes from animals fed on GM feed

You can download our free Shop GMO-Free in the UK app here. Continue reading

UN conference attempts to force adoption of GM crops and livestock

(Rome, Monday 15 February, 2016) Just when the biotech companies that make transgenic seeds are merging, the corporate vision of biotechnology is showing up at FAO.

At today’s opening of the three-day international symposium on agricultural biotechnologies convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, more than 100 social movement and civil society organisations (CSOs) from four continents have issued a statement denouncing both the substance and structure of the meeting, which appears to be another attempt by multinational agribusiness to redirect the policies of the UN agency toward support for genetically-engineered crops and livestock. Taiwan bans GMO food in its schools

Another country is taking action on genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Taiwan has banned schools across the nation from serving GMOs to students, citing health and safety concerns. Taiwanese legislature passed amendments to the School Health Act a few weeks ago to stamp out raw genetically modified ingredients as well as processed food containing GMOs. Continue reading

TTIP will bring GM foods flooding into our shops, and they won’t be labelled

Currently, all food producers selling their products in the UK are legally required to list on the package label when it contains GM ingredients … but all that is set to change under the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

When TTIP passes through Parliament into law here – I’m not saying ‘if’ because of how much MPs are being bribed to pass it – GM foods will come flooding into our supermarkets and the packets won’t be labelled. This is because there will no longer be any law to say they should be. The British public is already being mentally prepared by heavily-biased propaganda television programmes and as we speak, Monsanto is planning on moving to Britain, no doubt to be better placed to mop up all the tax-free breaks on this new windfall. Continue reading
